The map
GPS is read from each photo's EXIF metadata in your browser — accurate to roughly a few metres outdoors, but only if location was on when the photo was taken and the file is the original (screenshots, WhatsApp/Instagram re-saves and many social downloads strip it). Coordinates are sent to a public postcode service only to name the nearest postcode; the images themselves stay on your device.
